Purpose:
Introduce the third graders to your Corps of Discovery team focus topic.  Inspire the third graders with the lives and achievements of the people of the past. Relate to the present. Recruit the third graders for your global hero team.

Time frame:  Exactly seven minutes

Dates:  TBA for dress rehearsals and class member feedback
             January 29  for performances with Mrs. Miller's class and Mrs. Conwell's  classes.

Rubric/ checklist:

• Fill the time frame exactly.  Organize the seven  minutes to meet the following objectives:
• Enable the children to "enter into" the time period and to "meet" the people.  Costumes are desirable. You are encouraged to act roles speak in the first person for all or part of the skit.
• Enable the children to realize what is unique and interesting about your team focus.
• Reflect your own enthusiasm.
• Use high impact props such as COSTUMES, posters, overheads, picture cards, book sets, artifacts, maps and videos.  If you plan to show a segment of video, this needs to be limited to 3 minutes of your presentation time of 7 min.
• Use various presentation styles.  Use ideas to interest children which you've developed as you designed your cultural awareness and geography plans -- AVOID simply reading a report.
• Forecast what kinds of things your Corps of Discovery team will be doing.
• Invite the children to join your team!
