Activities
|
- Discussion questions: Read the title and ask what is unusual about
the sentence.
- Language arts: Define poetry. Show examples of different kinds of
poetry. Have a poetry slam. Invite other classes or parents.
- Writing: Write a poem like those in the book for each of the 5
senses. Learn to use rhyming dictionaries or Thesaurus. SShow
examples of similies, metaphores, etc. Type up the poems in a word
processing program
- Science: Make a Kidspiration web with five senses and three
pictures for each sense.
- Social Studies: Invite parents or another class to a poetry
slam.
- Drama: Videotape children reading poems. Burn a DVD and loan to
show at home.
- Art: Make pictures with vibrant colors and scratch techniques
similar to those in the book.
- Music: Play a nature sounds CD while students write.
- Movement: Go for a walk in noutdoors, Come back and write poems
about what you observed.
- Technology: Videotape students reading favorite poems. If
possible, burn DVDs or transfer to digital movies.
