Activities
|
- Discussion questions: What is duty? Did George Washington do his
duty? Was he a good president?
- Language arts: Make a KWL chart about George Washington and separate fact from
fiction. Use World Kids online or another encyclopedia.
- Writing: Pretend you are George Washington. Write a journal entry
about one of the events in the book.
- Math: Use dates to find out how old Washington was when he did
certain things.
- Science: Investigate farming in George Washington's day. What
crops did he raise? What animals?
- Social Studies: Discuss The Bill of Rights.
Trace the journey of Washington from his home to New York
City. Discuss transportation in George's day.
- Drama: Act out scenes from the book.
- Cooking/Food: Discuss with students what was served at
Washington's Inauguration dinner. Or read the book George Washington's
Breakfast.
- Art: Draw an event from Washington's
life, matching illustrations in the book or making their own.
- Music: Write a song about Washington
becoming president.
- Movement: How did George travel? Move like riding a horse, or a
carriage, or walking.
- Technology: Use Timeliner or another graphics program to create
a timeline of George Washington's life.
