Henry and Mudge and the Great Grandpas

When Henry and his dog Mudge go with Henry's parents to visit Great-Grandpa Bill in the home with lots of other grandpas, they lead them all on a wonderful adventure.

Book Activities

    • Discussion questions:  Do you get to visit great grandparents or grandparents? What do you do when you see them?
    • Language arts: Plan a Grandparents day event. Make invitations, read poems, put on a play, etc. Or contact the Senior Center and match up kids and seniors as pen pals.
    • Writing: Interview a grandparent about when they were young. Write their story.
    • Math: Graph how many grandparents and great grandparents the kids in class have.
    • Science: Find out about big dogs like Mudge.
    • Social Studies: Define Great Grandpas (and grandmas). What is their role in the family? Why are they special?
    • Play: Learn to play checkers or croquet.
    • Cooking/Food: What foods do you eat at your grandparents?
    • Art: Draw a picture of you doing your favorite activity with a grandparent. 
    • Music: Find the names of songs your grandparents sang when they were young. learn to sing one.
    • Movement: Do you know how to swim? Lay on the floor and  make swimming motions. Discuss safety in the water.
    • Technology: Make a family tree in Kidspiration or on paper.
