: Library Lion

A lion who enjoys his visits to a library gets kicked out because he roars when Miss Merriweather, a librarian, is hurt. He is greatly missed and is soon allowed back in the library because he broke a rule for a good reason.

Book Activities

    • Discussion questions: Using the title and cover, make a prediction about the book. What might a lion do in the library good or bad?
    • Language arts: Obtain or make a list of rules for the library. Discuss which are the most important.
    • Writing: Write a story from the viewpoint of the lion about why he comes to the library.
    • Math: Find out how many books are in the school library, public library. Have students count the books at home and total them.
    • Science: Research lions. Write a short report and type it up on the computer.
    • Social Studies: Discuss the library as community service organization. Visit the public library. Study the history of libraries.
    • Drama: Act out a scene from the book, "Library Lion".
    • Art: Decorate a list of library rules with markers or create the list in Kid Pix or PowerPoint and add clip art.
    • Music: Sing the Lion sleeps tonight.
    • Movement: Walk like a lion.
