: The SOS File

The students in Mr. Magro's class submit stories for the SOS file about their biggest emergencies, and then they read them aloud.

Book Activities

    • Discussion questions:  Discuss the concept of an anthology. This book was written by Betsy Byars and her two daughters. Compare Mr. Magro to Miss Daisy.
    • Language arts: Which story do you like best? Which was the the scariest? Funniest? Your favorite? What does SOS stand for? Where did the it come from?
    • Writing: Write your own SOS file. Type it in a word processing program and illustrate it. Make a class book.
    • Math:
    • Science: Find stories of people who survived earthquakes, tornadoes, shipwrecks, tusnamis, floods, holocaust, etc.
    • Social Studies: Discuss 911. What of the stories have true emergencies that require calling 911?
    • Drama: Make a reader's theatre of one of the stories.
