What is Paintball?

Paintball has often been referred to as "tag being played at 200 miles per hour." In its simplest form, paintball is a highly competitive sport in which teams (anywhere between three individuals to 50 or more) compete against each other to successfully achieve some objective. This objective may be as simple as to see which team can score the most eliminations of the ohter team, or as complex as trying to make it to several stations to score points while attempting to eliminate the other teams' members.

Paintball uses airpowered markers, similar to bb guns that project round gelatinous capusules that contain dye, food coloring, oil, and water. Often these paintballs are fired at a velocity of approximately 230 to 285 feet per second. Players wear protective masks and goggles. Many also wear clothing that will absorb some of the impact of the paintballs that hit them.

Types of Paintball Players

Know Thy Enemy

While the above graphic pokes fun at the expereince level of paintball players, the sport appeals to a large diversity of individuals. For example, the group of individuals who I often play with consist of both FEMALES and males, has members who have educational levels from junior high school to the post graduate doctoral level and range in age from 14 to their mid-40's.

Eric's Preferred Markers!

Of all markers, I recommend the Tippmann brand. They have moderately priced markers, especially if you are into recreational play. They are one of the few marker manufacturers that provide a one-year warranty on their products. Along with their outstanding warranty, their customer service is exceptional!!!!!!!!

Above is a picture of the Tippmann SL-68 II, the marker that I currently use. It is probably one of the best pump markers available, and can generally be purchased for around $110.

Above is a picture of the Tippmann Pro-Carbine, the newest marker from the Tippmann line. I purchased one in middle of October and have been highly pleased with its performance
