Economics 2802: Principles of Microeconomics

1. TEXTBOOK:

O’Sullivan/Sheffrin, Economics: Principles and Tools
Chapters Covered: 1, 2, 4-12
Time Permitting: 13, 14, 19 and 32

2. COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course provides a broad spectrum of economics of the firm and resource allocation. Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed upon the social implications of the various market structures. What is the significance of each market structure for price and output levels, resource allocation, and technological progress? Furthermore, the course offers a survey of international trade and finance.

Regulation, Deregulation, and Antitrust

Part 4: Resource Markets

 

Labor Markets and Wage Determination
Monopsony and Labor Market
Capital, Interest, Entrepreneurial Ability and Profit

4. EXAMINATION AND GRADING SCALES: There will be:

Four Exams (100 points-20 each)
Quizzes ( 75 points-15%)
A two-page typed double spaced research paper (25 points-5%)

FINAL :

Paper:

Topic and Outline Due: Thursday, May 27
Paper Due: Monday, June 2

Grading Scales:

A 90-100
B 80- 89
C 70- 79
D 60- 69
F 59 and below

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Students are required to attend classes. One unexcused absence will be allowed. For each additional unexcused absence 25 points will be deducted from the total points.
