Economics 3860: International Economics

Office Hours: 11:00-12:00 MTWRF, and by appointment.

TEXTBOOK: Yarbrough and Yarbrough, THE WORLD ECONOMY: Trade and Finance.

COURSE OBJECTIVE: The fundamental objective of this course is to Investigate how trade may function and what policies toward trade will bring benefits to nations. The Impact of changes in tariffs upon exchange rates and therefore welfare, the link between currencies of two nations, etc., are among topics for discussion in this course. Furthermore, the world of currencies examines foreign exchange markets, the balance of payments and basic macrosconomics of open economies.

EXAMINATION AND GRADING SCALE: There will be two hourly exams and a final exam. Each of these, including the final will be worth 100 points (noncumulative), and there will be NO MAKEUP EXAM. The final grade will be determined by averagin total points. The grading scale is as follows.

A 90%-1OO%
B 80%-89%
C 70%-79%
D 60%-69%
F 59% and below

EXAM I: Chapters I- 5
EXAM II: Chapters 6-11
Final EXAM: Chapters 12-16*

*Plus selective chapters thereafter.
