Research Interests
Kathy Bower has research interests in human interaction with the environment. This includes the availability and continuing use of water resources, the use of earthen materials for human structures, and the continued sustainable use of the environment. Kathy has developed numerical programs for geothermal energy extraction, grid generation, and solute transport. She has developed computer models of solute transport in groundwater for projects such as the permanent storage of radioactive waste in the U.S and potential release of radioactive contaminants into surface and groundwater from mines and disposal sites.
Currently, Dr. Bower is interested in the impact of human resource
use on the continuation of human communities. She is developing methods
to explore sustainable use of resources in human communities.
