Activities
|
- Discussion questions: Do you know
the story of the
gingerbread boy? Retell it. Do you know what a fractured folk tale is? Do you
like it when authors change a familiar story?
- Reading:
Read other versions of the Gingerbread
boy, baby, etc. Compare story line and illustrations. Join in on the chorus when reading.
Discuss what a "version" is.

Writing:
Write the story from the old man and old woman’s or the fox’s point
of view.
- Social Studies: What is a folk tale? Where did
folk tales come from? Why are folk tales in the nonfiction section of
the
library?
- Science: Research Spices. Where are they grown? What is
your favorite.
- Math: Count the candies on the gingerbread girl.
- Cooking/Snacks: Make gingerbread, eat
gingersnaps, compare several recipes for gingerbread cookies.
- Art/Drama: Make construction paper gingerbread people and
decorate. Make necklaces from various candies.
- Technology integration: Use Kid Pix to draw a "person"
and decorate with stamps and stickers.
- Compare: To other versions of the Gingerbread tale. (See
below)
