Recess at 20 Below is a book about recess in Alaska. The readers can see how the children enjoy recess.

Book Activities

    • Discussion questions:  What is your favorite thing to do for outdoor recess in the winter? How cold is TOO cold to go out at your school?
    • Reading/oral language: Have sharing time after recess and  tell what happened.
    • Writing: Write a tall tale about your best or worst recess experience.
    • Math: Create addition and subtraction problems about temperature.
    • Science: Why is in cold in Alaska and warm in Africa? Which place would you rather live and why?
    • Social Studies: Find Alaska on a map or globe and find where you live.
    • Cooking/Snack: make snow cones and eat ice cream.
    • Art/Drama: drawing and coloring snow flakes and snow men
    • Music/Movement: Make a list of recess games and songs. Play them at recess.
    • Technology integration: Visit snowcrystals.com and weatherwizkids.com to learn about snow and weather.
