Down Girl and Sit

A dog who thinks her name is Down Girl goes on a car ride to the beach, goes camping in the woods, and reluctantly pays a visit to the vet with her master, Rruff.

Book Activities

    • Discussion questions: Do dogs thinK? What are they thinking? What would they say if they could talk?
    • Reading/oral language: Read other stories from the point of view of an animal. (See below.)
    • Writing: Write a story told from the point of view of your pet or another animal.
    • Math: Figure out how many  miles is is from your house to the beach, to the vet, to the campground.
    • Science: Study pet care. Have each group do a different pet and share their information when they are done.
    • Social Studies: How long have people had pets? How did they tame them?
    • Cooking/Snack: Make a list of foods to take to the beach or on a camp out. Make a dog treat.
    • Art/Drama:
    • Music/Movement: Make a list of all the things dogs do: pant, shake, run, sit up, roll over, etc. In the gym at recess, have a dog activity day.
    • Technology integration: Choose dogs and other obejcts from the clip art. Use the speech and thought bubbles to make up what the dogs might be saying.
