1. Review
- Managing your computer (uh-oh: files
and directories) (from September 11, 1998)
- Cut-and-paste
(from September 11, 1998)
- Note ctrl-x (cut), ctrl-c (copy), ctrl-v (paste)
are just shortcuts to the following:
- highlight text, then pull down edit, cut;
OR, right-click cut

- highlight text, then pull down edit, copy; OR, right-click
copy
- once you have either done a copy or a cut, place cursor
where you want text to go, click once, then pull down
edit, paste; OR, right-click paste
- Creating folders/directories, using:
- My Computer
- double click "My Computer" icon
- double click C: drive, and again in
folders and subfolders, say "My
Documents," until level desired
reached (in which you want to place a
further subfolder, say, "website")
- either: click and pull down file, new,
folder; OR, right-click in white space
and go to new, folder
- either: highlight new folder and pull
down file, rename; OR, highlight new
folder, pause, and click for second time
on new folder (both allow you to rename
new folder to something you want).
- Windows Explorer
- go to start, programs, windows explorer (or
create shortcut for same on desktop)
- double click on folder and subfolder
desired (in which you want to place a
further subfolder, say, "website")
- either: click and pull down file, new,
folder; OR, right-click in white space
and go to new, folder
- either: highlight new folder and pull
down file, rename; OR, highlight new
folder, pause, and click for second time
on new folder (both allow you to rename
new folder to something you want).
- FrontPage Express; OR, Netscape Composer
- pull down file, save as, and click "as
file" (FrontPage); OR, file, save as
(Composer)
- right-click in white space and go to new,
folder
- either: highlight new folder and pull
down file, rename; OR, highlight new
folder, pause, and click for second time
on new folder (both allow you to rename
new folder to something you want).
- WS_FTP95 LE
- go to start, communication, WS_FTP95, ver.
4.50
- on left side double click the "up
arrow . ." until just C: listed at
top
- double click on folder and subfolder
desired (in which you want to place a
further subfolder, say, "website")
- click "MkDir"
- enter new name (say "website")
- (note: while WS_FTP is the clunkiest
choice; it is the easiest choice when it
comes to establishing folders [now called
directories in Unix world] on the server
[the right-hand boxes] and so is
important)
