Rocketry Days at
Charleston
Middle School

Kay prepares for blast-off.

They didn't make it to the Sun. They didn't even make it into low Earth orbit. But CMS eighth graders filled the skies with the smoke trails of launched model rockets at the annual Charleston Middle School Rocketry Days. Science students used model rocketry to help learn about Newton's Laws of Motion and the principles of flight. Math students learned how to use basic trigonometry to determine the altitudes of the launched rockets. Together, the eighth graders enjoyed their final days of school in this popular outdoor event. VIP guests for our launch included Dr. Bronislaw Tembrowski, a professor of mathematics and his wife Wanda Tembrowski, a middle school/high school principal, both from Warsaw, Poland, and Dr. Max Gerling, professor of mathematics at Eastern Illinois University.
