Times-Courier
History
The first courier
newspaper was published in Charleston in 1830. In 1863 the name
changed to the Plaindealer. In the early 1900's it was purchased by
The Charleston Daily News while Betty Boyer, publisher of The Daily
Times, bought the Times Courier in 1972.
Nature of
Business
The Times Courier
prints a newspaper six mornings a week. The papers are usually around
24 pages.
Qualities & Skills
Needed for Employment
The skills required by
a worker depend on the department they work in. All departments have
to have good people skills since they work with people in news,
advertising, and circulation.
Impact of Changing
Technologies
Everything done at the
Times Courier is done on computers. Some news is received by
satellite dish.
Vision for
2020
Computers will be
increasingly important. They may not print a newspaper that is
delivered to the doorstep each morning, but they believe they will
continue to gather and package information for
subscribers.
