Public Policy and Labor Markets: Occupational Licensing
Occupational licensing has been criticized on three grounds:
- Weak link between performance and licensing requirements
- Alternative means of protection from incompetent workers
- Restrictions that increase the cost of entry result in a decrease in the supply of workers, and an increase the wages paid
