[B] Write an essay (30%) in which you compare and contrast two of the quotes not selected to write on [A]. Again be sure to compare argument, intention, and context. I will put at least five of the following passages on the test.

Part 3. (40%) Two of the following three questions will be on the exam, from which you will select one as the basis for a well-constructed essay. Define your terms, make an argument, and give specific evidence to back that argument. The evidence–declarations, actions, general social or economic movements–should be explained to show how it "fits" (or proves) your argument. Your evidence must include at least two of the passages from part 3 not selected as the basis of essays in the earlier parts, and you should clearly define and/or analyze those terms/passages, and show how they relate to the question.

1) Was there a Tudor Revolution in Government, and, if so, when was it? Define and modify Elton’s term”Tudor Revolution in Government,” and compare and contrast any “revolution in government” under Yorkists Edward IV/Richard III, Henry VII, and Henry VIII. Give specific examples and evaluate what they prove.

2) When was the English Reformation? Write an essay in which you compare the various eras which might be considered the real Reformation and defend your choice.

3) “This realm of England is an empire”: so said the Act in Restraint of Appeals, 1533. But was there a Tudor Empire? Write an essay in which you suggest the extent and potential for empire beyond England from Henry VII’s to Elizabeth’s reign, using England’s relations with Scotland, Ireland, the continent, and world trade and colonies.
