We are pleased to host the Midwest Conference on British Studies for its first meeting at the University of Kansas. We encourage participants to explore the facilities at KU for the study of British and Irish history and culture.

The registration fee is $60, which includes attendance at all conference sessions, the Friday reception, refreshment breaks, and conference materials. Student registration is $30. There are separate registration fees for the dinner ($25) on Friday, October 17, and for the luncheon ($14) on Saturday, October 18. An additional fee of $10 is due for registrations postmarked after October 1, 1997. All presenters are expected to register.

The conference will be held in the Adams Alumni Center and in the Kansas Union, 13th Street and Jayhawk Boulevard, the University of Kansas, Lawrence. Please refer to the program schedule for the building locations of individual sessions and special events. Rooms will be listed in the final conference program.
The closest major airport is Kansas City International, 50 miles east of Lawrence; driving time is about one hour. From the airport take I-435 west and south to I-70, then go west on I-70 to Lawrence.
Lawrence is on Interstate 70 (the Kansas Turnpike), between Kansas City, 50 miles east, and Topeka, 25 miles west. Both I-70 and Kansas Highway 10 offer easy access to Lawrence from I-35 in Kansas City.
Car rental is available at the KCI airport; we encourage you to rent a car and to carpool with others. Airport shuttle service to Lawrence is available from several private carriers; reservations are required. A list of carriers is available from the KU Division of Continuing Education.
A shuttle will be provided for participants staying at the conference hotel. The shuttle will run to and from campus at the beginning and end of each day's activities. Conference participants who choose lodging in other locations are responsible for their own transportation.
Campus access is restricted Monday-Friday. Campus visitors may
park at metered spaces ($.50/hour) in Lots 91-94, west of the Kansas
Union (enter from Mississippi Street, south of 11th Street). Visitors
may not park in stalls designated for the physically disabled,
loading zones, fire lanes, and other restricted areas. A Lawrence/KU
campus map will be sent with your registration confirmation.

October is a busy time in Lawrence; reservations for lodging are required. A block of rooms has been reserved for conference participants at the Lawrence Holiday Inn Holidome, 200 McDonald Dr., Lawrence, KS 66044. Telephone: (785) 841-7077. Fax: (785) 841-2799. Conference participants should make reservations directly with the motel before September 25, 1997. Refer to the "Midwest Conference on British Studies" to reserve rooms in the MWCBS block for the group rate of $74/room/night (1-4 people), plus tax. A list of Lawrence hotels is available on request from the KU Division of Continuing Education.
A full refund of registration fees will be available if requested in writing and received by October 1, 1997. After that date, refunds will be made, but a $15 administrative fee will be charged. No refunds will be made after October 15, 1997. The University of Kansas Division of Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel the conference and return all fees in the event of insufficient registration. The liability of the University of Kansas is limited to the registration fee. The University of Kansas will not be responsible for any losses incurred by the registrants, including but not limited to airline cancellation charges or hotel deposits.
